Assignment creation and management is at the core of WebAssign. We provide a powerful combination of content and tools to help you achieve your class objectives and pedagogical goals.
Assignment Content
Selecting content for your assignments is simple. With our question browser you can choose questions from your adopted textbook and our free additional resources collection, as well as create or modify your own questions. Usage statistics for each question helps you gauge the difficulty level and average time on task based on historical question use.
Assignment Settings and Templates
You define the exact behaviors that each assignment exhibits. With WebAssign, you decide:
- The number of submission attempts for each student
- The point value of each question and question part
- The type of feedback students receive
- When hints are displayed
- Under what conditions bonus or penalty points are applied
- How strict or lenient numerical tolerance should be
- Whether values should randomize per student, or remain the same for all students
- Whether questions should display in a specific sequence, or randomly scramble
- And much, much more
Our easy-to-use Assignment Template feature lets you customize and store behaviors for different types of assignments, or choose from one of our default templates that utilize the most popular settings for homework, test, quiz, practice or other common assignment types.
Show My Work
With the optional Show My Work feature, students can upload images, files, or photos of their detailed work (or type it directly into WebAssign) and attach it to specific questions for you to review and optionally award additional points.
Course Packs
Don’t have time to individually select questions to build your assignments? Available for select titles, Course Packs save you time with prebuilt assignments, using questions specifically chosen by experienced WebAssign adopters and subject matter experts. Every assignment can be modified, and you still control the complete student experience. Simply choose the Course Pack and schedule it to get started.
Scheduling Assignments
Once you create your assignments, you’re ready to schedule them into your course. You decide when assignments become available to students, and can specify either an absolute due date (such as Friday) or a relative due date based on your course schedule (such as 1 hour before Wednesday’s class). With our unique Course Copy functionality, you can copy the entire schedule into different sections, or across different terms, greatly reducing your workload in the process.
Secure Testing Restrictions, Conditional Release, and Group Assignments
WebAssign lets you set testing restrictions on assignments to deliver a secure online or proctored assessment. Use Password Protection, IP Restrictions, Timed Tests, and Lockdown Browser or any combination thereof, to deliver the assessment you’re most comfortable with.
Our Conditional Release of Assignment restriction enables you to build a gated or self-paced approach for students. Students must first reach a benchmark score that you define on a prerequisite assignment before being able to open the next assignment.
With WebAssign, you can also set up Group Assignments, which lets subsets of students submit a single assignment for a grade. Ideal for lab assignments, studio labs, or small group work, we let you define which students are in a specific group, or can randomly build groups for you.
